I’ll never forget the experience of attending my first Lawyers’ Christian Fellowship conference in the UK. I had been in practice for a number of years, but had never attended a conference of ‘Christian lawyers’ before. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I think in honesty, my expectations were fairly low.
It became apparent very quickly that attending was one of the best decisions I had made that year. Something that I hadn’t anticipated was the great joy (and relief) in meeting people from all walks of life, in all variety of sectors, who shared my faith. Hearing how the Lord had placed His followers in such incredible positions of influence and authority across the UK was a reminder that He cares far more about the legal profession than I do!
The legal profession can feel very lonely at times, particularly when fellow colleagues don’t share your faith. But to be reminded that I was part of the body of Christ, alive and well in the legal profession, gave me an energy and drive heading back to work at the end of that weekend.
I’m particularly excited to attend the conference in Berlin that has this same heart, but embraces fellow lawyers from across Europe. I can’t wait to hear how the Lord is using us as His hands and feet across sectors, jurisdictions and borders.
